Hot Cares supports brighter beginnings at Alexandra ECD Centre

Hot Cares is proud to support an organisation that is changing lives from the very beginning—one child, one teacher, one community at a time.

Rays of Hope has been making a meaningful difference in Alexandra since 1991, supporting over 400 children and their families through holistic programmes that focus on education, psychosocial care, and family development. At the heart of their work lies the Whole Child Model—ensuring children are not only educated, but nurtured in every aspect of their growth.

One of their flagship initiatives is the Akanani Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre, which opened its doors in April 2023. Here, 50 children aged three and older, many from vulnerable households, are receiving quality pre-primary education, nutrition, and support in a structured and stimulating environment. But as education methods evolve, so too must the educators.

That’s why Rays of Hope identified a critical need: accredited ECD training programmes for their passionate team. These courses will ensure staff are equipped with the latest techniques to support early learning and emotional development during the most formative years of a child’s life.

Hot Cares was moved by the dedication of centre leader Dikeledi Phiri and her team, and by the impact their work has on children in Alexandra. Thanks to the generosity of our Hot 1027 listeners, we’re honoured to contribute R25 000 toward these essential training courses.
