Footprints of love: helping children heal with dignity

Hot Cares recently had the privilege of stepping into a world of quiet, powerful impact — the work of Footprints 4 Sam, a foundation created in memory of a little boy whose life left a legacy of compassion and change.

Sam’s journey through the public healthcare system revealed heartbreaking gaps — not just in resources, but in connection, dignity, and emotional support. After his passing, his parents, Fred and Melissa Platt, vowed to create change so that no child or family would ever feel that isolated again.

Today, Footprints 4 Sam is transforming paediatric care across Gauteng and beyond through thoughtful, deeply human initiatives like the Angels 4 Sam Programme and the Super Sam WiFi Initiative.

The Angels 4 Sam Programme invites high school students to complete their community service hours by offering companionship, play, and emotional support to hospitalised children. These small acts of kindness help ease the trauma of long hospital stays — while nurturing compassion in a new generation.

Meanwhile, the Super Sam WiFi Initiative ensures that mothers in the Kangaroo Mother Care Ward at Rahima Moosa Hospital have uninterrupted access to WiFi while they care for their premature babies. For many, this connection is a vital lifeline — allowing them to stay in touch with family, access information, and feel less alone during weeks or even months in hospital.

Hot Cares is honoured to support these life-changing initiatives. We’re covering the cost of educational materials for the Angels Programme (R20,000), and sponsoring the WiFi at Rahima Moosa Hospital for the next 12 months (R12,000).

In honour of Sam — and every child still fighting — this support is a small step towards healing, dignity, and hope. One footprint at a time.
