What began as one structure is now many fresh starts, thanks to Hot Cares

When Hot Cares first stepped in to support Salvation House in late 2025, it was in response to a simple but heartbreaking reality: there were more men asking for help than there were beds available.

Salvation House, run by Conroy Delport and his wife Jenny in Vanderbijlpark, exists to offer a hand up — not a handout. It’s a post-rehabilitation, sober-living home where men commit to a structured six-month programme focused on accountability, dignity, and rebuilding their lives.

By January 2026, that need had only grown.

“Turning someone away when they’re finally ready to change is the hardest thing,” Conroy says. “All they’re asking for is one more chance.”

Thanks to Hot Cares, that chance became possible for more men. With donor support, Hot Cares funded the construction of an additional wooden housing unit — a practical intervention that immediately created space for new residents to begin their recovery journey.

For the men who have already walked through the programme, the difference has been life-changing.

“This place gave me structure again,” says one former resident. “But more than that, it gave me hope when I had none.”

Today, Salvation House continues to operate at full capacity, providing stability, skills training, and a pathway back into work and independence — while Conroy still balances running the ministry with a full-time job.

Months on, the impact of that single act of generosity is still unfolding. More beds mean more lives restored, more families reunited, and more men choosing a future over the streets.

That’s what Christmas in July is really about — lasting change, made possible by people who care.

Because when compassion meets action, hope doesn’t just arrive once. It keeps growing.
