A Place to play, a place to grow – Silverstar and Hot Cares Support Ikholwa Children’s Home

Ikholwa Children’s Home has long been a sanctuary for vulnerable boys, offering safety, care, and the hope of a brighter future. But recently, their dream of creating a dedicated space for play, creativity, and growth was left hanging — quite literally.

When their ageing wooden Wendy house became a safety hazard, Ikholwa took the responsible step to replace it. The new structure began to take shape, funded by another NPO, but when that organisation’s funding ran out, the job was left unfinished — with only precast walls, a roof, and dreams that were suddenly on hold.

With their re-registration with the Department of Social Development looming, and the unfinished structure threatening their application, Ikholwa reached out for help. That’s when Hot Cares and Silverstar stepped in.

Together, we’re completing the space — installing flooring, a ceiling, a secure door, solar lighting, and plug points. We’re also building a custom counter for art and technical projects, as well as a massive chalkboard wall for self-expression.

And because no chill room is complete without fun, we’re adding a foosball table — a simple addition that promises hours of joy.

This isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about restoring pride, preserving essential services, and creating a dedicated “man cave” for the boys of Ikholwa — a place to relax, create, and just be kids.
