Hot Cares helps bring water to Pilanesberg’s remote wildlife areas

Deep in the heart of the North West, the Pilanesberg National Park is home to some of South Africa’s most iconic wildlife. But even this well-known conservation area faces serious challenges—especially when it comes to ensuring access to something as basic as water.

This week, Hot Cares was deeply moved by a heartfelt request from Chrystal Steynberg and the Makanyane Team. They shared the urgent need for boreholes and water pumps to distribute water across remote parts of the park—areas where natural sources are scarce and wildlife struggle to survive. The R30,000 project would not only benefit animals like rhinos, elephants, lions, and cheetahs, but also support the rangers, researchers, and volunteers working in difficult and isolated conditions.

The Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust, a registered non-profit and Public Benefit Organisation, funds crucial conservation initiatives, including the fully supported Rhino Protection Unit (RPU). From anti-poaching operations to aerial surveillance and community upliftment, their work is vital—but their resources are stretched thin.

Water scarcity leads to overcrowding at limited waterholes, which stresses animals and accelerates environmental damage. By strategically placing boreholes and pumps, the trust can relieve pressure on certain habitats, protect vulnerable species, and assist field workers who dedicate their lives to conservation.

Hot Cares is proud to step in and fund the full R30,000 needed for this initiative. This is more than a donation—it’s a lifeline for the animals and people who call the Pilanesberg home. We believe in the work being done by the Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust and hope this support makes a meaningful impact on their mission.
