Every baby deserves a chance—how Hot Cares is helping Impilo make that happen

In South Africa, the heartbreaking reality of baby abandonment is growing at an alarming rate—with an estimated 3,000 infants abandoned every year, and only one in three surviving. As legal alternatives like Baby Savers face scrutiny, desperate mothers are leaving newborns in unsafe places: on rubbish heaps, in plastic bags, at taxi ranks, and cemeteries.

That’s why the work of Impilo Child Protection & Adoption Services is not just essential—it’s life-saving.

To combat this crisis, Impilo launched Abandoned Baby Rescue Kits, distributed to trained first responders like police officers and security personnel. Each kit is equipped with critical supplies—hydration items, clothing, blankets, umbilical cord clamps, gloves, and first aid essentials. These kits are often the only chance at survival for an abandoned baby.

But this life-saving work comes at a cost.

That’s why Hot Cares stepped in, with help from our incredible listeners, to fund 200 nappy bags valued at R30,000, plus an additional R10,000 in essential medical supplies. Each bag is a vessel of hope, packed with everything needed to care for a newborn rescued in the most dire circumstances.
